The track "When the Heat Hits the Streets" was used in a television advertising campaign for the Chrysler Laser, with Chrysler serving as a sponsor for Branigan's 1985–1986 Hold Me tour (a Chrysler Laser was prominently displayed in the "Spanish Eddie" music video).Īccording to Branigan, she said "the album is such a growth from my other albums. Nevertheless, "Hold Me" reached number 39 on Billboard 's Hot Dance/Disco Club Play chart, while "I Found Someone" reached number 25 on the Hot Adult Contemporary chart. Subsequent singles " Hold Me" and " I Found Someone" failed to make an impact, peaking at numbers 82 and 90 on the Billboard Hot 100, respectively. The album's lead single, " Spanish Eddie", earned Branigan her sixth top-40 entry in two and a half years, peaking at number 40 on the Billboard Hot 100, and was moderately successful outside the United States. The album peaked at number 71 on the US Billboard 200, though it fared better internationally, reaching the top 10 in Sweden and Switzerland, and the top 15 in Norway. The project was never completed however, and none of these songs have been officially released. In the late 1990s and up until her own death in 2004, Branigan recorded a handful of songs for compilations as well as for a proposed comeback album. These marked her final recordings with long-time label Atlantic Records while she took an extended hiatus from the music industry to care for her husband, who was diagnosed with colon cancer, and ultimately to mourn his death. In addition, Branigan also recorded two new tracks for The Best of Branigan in 1995, her first North American greatest hits album. While some were released as promotional singles, and others later released as b-sides or as bonus tracks on reissues, most of the tracks remain unreleased. Prior to the final release of her debut album, Branigan, in 1982, many songs from early recording sessions for the album were shelved. Between 19, Branigan recorded songs for seven studio albums, as well as for several soundtrack releases and various artist albums.
